Mood: waiting for wind
22nd February 2008
Windsurfing: Camber - Little Maui
Wind Direction: WSW
Wind Stength: 20 knts, gusting 30 ish
Surf / Sea State: sweeeeet ..... looked flat fro
Air Temperature: ok
Sea Temperature: ok
Weather: overcast and windy
Max Speed:
Distance Covered:

Midday high tides so Camber was the call, and with a big tide, the sea was pretty soon up to the dunes!!
Rip was pretty noticeable on the inside, and there were a few chunky lumps of timber floating about, possibly something to do with the heavy plant on the beach the other side of the harbour mouth perhaps?
Met up with the boys before 10am and did a recce. Looked a bit light, but was due to fill in. First look suggested 5.8m & 3S97, but opted to hang on for 20 mins or so while a few more rocked up. Wind seemed to be picking up so snuck another recce and went 5.3m Manic and 3S97 ..... which turned out to be a fine choice!
True, it was pretty windy out the back, but punching out at camber requires either muchoskill or maxipower .... no shame for me to take the full power option ;-)
Cracking day sailing with the guys, Rich, Stu, Allesandro, Sean, Rich ...... and a few late starters, including Ray who's probably still out there.
Has to rate as a 5* session as I was pretty close to landing my first backie ....... Stu tells me it was about 30 foot high (baby feet maybe !!) but then goes and totally spoils it by telling me that if I'd gone a bit higher I'd have landed it.
Quality session, probably 4-5 hours sailing, with a fair few breathers (need to work on my fitness again, no stamina!!), but pretty mild for February, and although wind was a little up and down due to being pretty westerly, I felt as though I pretty much got it right, even though I did get propper drilled a couple of times.
